The general picture of the coverage of the Karabakh conflict in the Foreign media from October 29 to November 1

From October 29 to November 1, 2020, “Media Advocate” initiative monitored the publications of 5 leading foreign media outlets to find out how the foreign media covered the actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. The websites of the following media outlets were monitored: “BBC”, “CNN”, “Reuters”, “Associated Press” (AP), and “Deutsche Welle” (DW-English version).

The BBC news agency published 3 articles. The media outlet covered the history of the conflict with an extensive article. The news agency also prepared a 10-minute video report from Artsakh, in which the people of Artsakh who have to live in shelters as well as the soldiers fighting for the defense of the homeland share their feelings.

CNN news agency did not cover the Karabakh conflict during this period.

Reuters news agency published 10 articles in the specified monitoring period. The media outlet referred to the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, as well as to the mutual accusations of shelling the peaceful settlements.

The Associated Press published 4 articles during the specified monitoring period. The media outlet referred to the negotiations held in Geneva and the commitments undertaken by the parties. It also noted that on October 31, the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, detailing the situation in Nagorno Karabakh and the challenges encountered.

Deutsche Welle news agency published 3 articles. The German news outlet referred to the Geneva negotiations too, as well as addressed the fact that Russia will “assist” Armenia if conflict with Azerbaijan spreads beyond Nagorno-Karabakh.
