Journalist Tatul Hakobyan, referring to Azerbaijan’s offensive on the Artsakh Republic, presented the situation on the border by posting an update on his Facebook page. Tatul Hakobyan, using the information published in open sources, presented the exact situation, according to which the Armenian side retreated in certain directions.
Tatul Hakobyan’s post was followed by insults written by some Facebook users, without realizing that the journalist was not doing anything but only reporting the same official information.
Besides the Facebook users, Tatul Hakobyan was also criticized by some government officials as well.
“Media Advocate” initiative is concerned about the low level of media literacy in the country. We call on state officials to refrain from criticizing journalists who use open state sources and publish nothing but the truth. Such cases are not in the interests of freedom of speech and press.
