Unilateral coverage of events by the NA Information Department

During the reference to the May 8 parliamentary events, the principles of comprehensive coverage were violated on the official website of the National Assembly. Thus, Edmon Marukyan’s speech is missing from the textual version of the website, and only one sentence states that Edmon Marukyan considered the case political. Instead, the words of the head of the “My Step” fraction Lilit Makunts are directly quoted.

It is not mentioned whose speech was followed by Edmon Marukyan’s speech and how the fight actually started.

The textual section of the website also has video content. Here one may find only Nikol Pashinyan’s speech, where the Prime Minister justifies Sasun Mikayelyan, considering the fact of hitting Edmon Marukyan as a provocation incited by Marukyan. There is no reference or a single word in the video version from the speech of Edmon Marukyan or another deputy either. It is obvious that the principle of comprehensiveness has been violated in the video version as well.

“Media Advocate” initiative urges the NA Information Department to observe the principle of comprehensive coverage while presenting the incidents and not to give preference to any of the sides.
