From 11 to 20 Septmeber, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Vice-president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 58 articles were declared, 17 of which were negative, 1 was positive and 40 were neutral.
In contrast to his colleagues, the NA Vice Speaker Alen Simonyan has been passively covered. As a result of the monitoring, only a single positive article was published. According to the publication, people on social networks have written positive comments and words of admiration on Alen Simonyan’s wife, calling her “beautiful”.
According to media reports, Suren and Gevorg Vardanyan were accused of misuses during the construction of the North-South highway: as a matter of fact, Vardanyans are the owners of subcontractor company “Polittransport” which is believed to have close ties with Alen Simonyan.
Alen Simonyan also commented on the recent protest of black dressed mothers and relatives of the killed soldiers held in front of the government building, reminding that a woman who attacked Nikol Pashinyan in Malatia back in 2012, happened to be among the protesters.
