Positive and negative articles on Anna Hakobyan

From 21 to 31 August, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the wife of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Hakobyan’s personality and activities.

35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.

In the specified period, 179 articles were declared, 33 of which were negative, 23 were positive and 123 were neutral.

Both positive and negative articles on the Prime Minister’s wife Anna Hakobyan continue to be published in the media. For many years, “black-dressed mothers ” in Armenia have been fighting for justice for cases of their sons. The black mothers insist that the circumstances of their sons’ deaths in the army are not fully disclosed and that the sinners are at large. They continue their protest and this time they insist that they fail to meet with Anna Hakobyan. The women note they had spoken to Anna Hakobyan’s employee who said that Anna Hakobyan was not in town, but according to the mothers, she had a live Facebook broadcast near Swan Lake that very night.

Recently, “My Step” Foundation has awarded scholarships to a number of students, and it is noted that among these students one could also find the grandson of the first President of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan. This was the subject of criticism and media reported on the fact that April war participant Hayk Sekhilyan needed € 35,000 to undergo a rehabilitation course in Germany. According to media reports, Anna Hakobyan is aware of the problem, but no support has been provided to the soldier so far.

Political scientist Gagik Hambaryan notes that the oligarchs, who were considered as oligarchs by Nikol Pashinyan as well, are already making payments to Anna Hakobyan’s foundations. Gagik Hambaryan expressed an opinion that “if Gagik Khachatryan gives the money that the government demands, he will be free”.

Some media outlets and community activists, in their turn, have welcomed My Step Foundation’s projects, that is the given scholarships and the renovation of Debedavan village’s only kindergarten.
