From 1 to 10 June, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 106 articles were declared, 10 of which were negative, 9 were positive and 56 were neutral.
Positive and negative articles on Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan are almost equal. The content of the positive articles is connected with cleaning activities of “Karmi Blur”. It is not a secret that the issue of garbage disposal is in a miserable condition in Yerevan. According to the former head of the Davtashen administrative district Ruslan Baghdasaryan, Hayk Marutyan wants to dissolve the existing contract with “Sanitek”. The former head of the district warns that “Sanitek” will appeal to the arbitral tribunal. He also adds that only Hayk Marutyan will be responsible for that.
Residents of Erebuni administrative district’s Azatamartikneri Street 76, find that Mayor Hayk Marutyan illegally gave construction permit to businessman Vahan Begoyan. 168.am writes: “The citizens were given the same conclusions in all the state structures: there is no law based on which the community-owned water supply pumping station could be given to a citizen, so the mayor of Yerevan had taken an unlawful decision. It turns out that all state agencies and law experts find that alienation of the water supply pumping station is a crime, while Yerevan’s current mayor, Hayk Marutyan, has issued a construction permit not to eliminate the unlawful state, but to provide a new premise for evacuating the pumping station, and this, according to citizens, has been done by subordinating the safety norms, community interests, and the desire of more than 300 citizens only to satisfy the private interests of businessman Begoyan.”
It turns out that there is dissatisfaction among the citizens. Furthermore, the question of “Sanitek” Company should have been a matter of discussion in the legal platform so that the mistakes and possible penalties were minimized or abolished.
