The statistics released by Freedom of Information Center of Armenia headed by Shushan Doydoyan, testify that systematic and consistent process is undertaken against freedom of press in Armenia.The unprecedented rise in the number of lawsuits filed against the media over the past year has shown that the authorities of Armenian do not tolerate dissent and try to hinder the work of media outlets using force methodology. We, the “Media Advocate” Organization, state that freedom of expression and the free and indifferent media activity in Armenia are endangered. In the coming days, we will appeal to the RA Judicial Department requesting to publish information on all 91 applications, based on which we will publish our own study. We also express our full support to the media, expressing willingness to participate in all defense actions arising from lawsuits.
