On May 19, 2019 a scandalous incident took place during ArmTV’s (Public Television of Armenia) “Public Discussion” program. Ruben Hakobyan, former MP of the RA National Assembly, has made negative remarks on journalist and host Petros Ghazaryan.
Though this kind of programs are emotionally colored, “Media Advocate” initiative urges Ruben Hakobyan, politicians and other interviewees to refrain from similar qualifications and to respect profession of journalists, even in case of political and ideological disagreements.
While the defense of press freedom is mainly the responsibility of the authorities, “Media Advocate” in its turn encourages commentators and journalists to create an atmosphere of mutual respect among the guests and the program participants, guaranteeing freedom of expression.
