Restricting the professional freedom of journalists is unacceptable

Political scientist Armen Minasyan posted an update on his Facebook page, according to which a meeting was held with journalists at the Ministry of Defense, during which they were urged to refrain from realistic and intentional speculations related to the army.

“Media Advocate” urges journalists to exercise restraint, avoid any kind of speculations especially referring to this subject. As far as the information corresponding to reality is concerned, we hope that the MoD will not violate the journalists’ right to freedom of speech and will not interfere in their editorial activity.

Such kind of closed meetings, which urge journalists to refrain from publishing information about this or that fact, are unacceptable. No state agency has the right to restrict the freedom of the media and journalists to publish their facts.
