Armenia՛s Public Television today incompletely covered the issue of the referendum campaign on the constitutional amendments during its broadcasts at 13:00, 15:00. It was noted that the “Yes” campaign headquarter will be headed by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan. The parliamentary opposition will not take part in the referendum. A group of at least 50 citizens may form a “No” campaign. A human rights activist, head of the “Legal Way” NGO Ruben Melikyan, announced about launching consultations on forming a “No” propaganda side. A few days ago, Ruben Melikyan posted on his Facebook page that more than a hundred lawyers and human rights defenders had publicly stated that the referendum initiated by the current authorities is unconstitutional both in content and in procedural terms. Melikyan noted that their goal is to take the “public protection” of “No” opinions for the sake of the Republic of Armenia and its citizens.
“Media Advocate” Initiative urges Public television, operating at the expense of the public funds to provide citizens with complete information. As we previously stated, Media Advocate will conduct emergency monitoring of the content of the broadcast, with each violation recorded.
