5th Channel has won a lawsuit against the police. The case was related to not wearing a mask on the air during the quarantine. “Media Advocate” initiative welcomes the court decision and congratulates the staff of the TV company on the victory.
“Media Advocate” initiative talked to the director of the TV company. Harutyun Harutyunyan mentioned that first of all this was a matter of principle and honor. The director, in particularly, detailed that after visiting the police TV station, he measured the distance between the interlocutor and the guest in the presence of policemen. It was 2 meters 80 centimeters, which, in fact, was already enough. Then Harutyun Harutyunyan was invited to the police․ “I said that I won’t stop, and will apply to the European Court if necessary.” Harutyunyan advised the police to study the international experience, there is not a single example that the TV company was fined when keeping social distance.
According to Harutyun Harutyunyan, the police went to their TV station deliberately and tried to apply pressure․ “The problem was not the 100.000 drams envisaged by the fine but the moral character of the matter, we had to win and I was sure that the victory in this case will be ours, I myself had not participated in the court hearings, our lawyer had been in court.”
