The general picture of the coverage of the Karabakh conflict in the Russian media on November 4

On November 4, 2020, “Media Advocate” initiative monitored the publications of 5 leading Russian media outlets to find out how the Russian media covered the actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. The following media outlets were monitored: “Lenta ru”, “Gazeta ru”, “Ria Novosti”, “Regnum”, and “TASS”.

“Lenta.ru” published 8 articles, 1 of which was the publication of the Azerbaijani side, 3 of the Armenian side, 4 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts․3 out of 4 materials are pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

“Gazeta ru” published 15 articles, 8 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 3 of the Armenian side, 4 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 3 out of 4 materials are neutral, 1 is pro-Armenian, none is pro-Azerbaijani.

“Ria Novosti” published 28 articles, 12 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 13 of the Armenian side, 3 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. All of 3 articles were of a neutral character.

“TASS” published 14 articles, 5 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 6 of the Armenian side, 3 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 2 out of 3 materials are neutral, 1 is pro-Armenian, none is pro-Azerbaijani.

“Regnum” published 13 articles, 3 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 3 of the Armenian side, 7 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 4 out of 7 materials are neutral, 2 are pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

UEFA opened a disciplinary case against Nurlan Ibrahimov, an employee of the Azerbaijani club Qarabag under two articles of the disciplinary rules – “racist and other discriminatory behavior” and “violation of basic rules of decent behavior”, suspending the club employee from any activity related to football.

The Council of Ministers in France has decided to ban the activities of the Turkish extremist nationalist group “Gray Wolves”. Among the reasons for the ban is that the organization is made up of “far-right Turkish nationalists” who spread calls for violence against Armenians and Kurds on the Internet.

According to the author of the “Wargonzo” Telegram channel, Russian journalist Semyon Pegov, the Azerbaijani military is preparing a revolt against the Turkish command. Earlier, Pegov said that, according to Istanbul sources, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov was de facto removed from command at Turkey’s request. As a ground for it, it is mentioned that Hasanov has close ties with Russian generals. According to the journalist, the Turkish special services demanded that Ilham Aliyev expels all Azerbaijani generals educated in Russia.
