The general picture of the coverage of the Karabakh conflict in the Russian media on November 3

On November 3, 2020, “Media Advocate” initiative monitored the publications of 5 leading Russian media outlets to find out how the Russian media covered the actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. The following media outlets were monitored: “Lenta ru”, “Gazeta ru”, “Ria Novosti”, “Regnum”, and “TASS”.

“Lenta.ru” published 14 articles, 3 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 8 of the Armenian side, 2 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts․ Both articles were of a neutral character.

“Gazeta ru” published 12 articles,1 of which was the publication of the Azerbaijani side, 4 of the Armenian side, 7 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 4 out of 7 materials are neutral, 3 are pro-Armenian, none is pro-Azerbaijani.

“Ria Novosti” published 40 articles, 16 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 18 of the Armenian side, 6 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 5 out of 6 materials are neutral, none is pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

“TASS” published 11 articles, 4 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 6 of the Armenian side, 1 was a neutral article regarding the conflict.

“Regnum” published 24 articles, 5 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 11 of the Armenian side, 8 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 5 out of 8 materials are neutral, 3 are pro-Armenian, none is pro-Azerbaijani.

According to the Russian press, Turkish nationalists provoked riots in Dijon in late October։ their actions are anti-Armenian. The radicals desecrated the Armenian Genocide monument. The French authorities intend to ban the activities of Turkish nationalists, the “Gray Wolves” organization, in the country.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has condemned the desecration of a memorial to the Armenian Genocide in Turkey in the early 20th century amid the escalation of the Karabakh conflict.

The National Interest journalist Harout Ekmanian writes in his article that the bloodshed in Artsakh, where there is a danger of a repeat of the genocide of the local population, can be stopped by recognizing its independence. “For the international community, it must become a civilized front against two bloody dictatorships conditioned by racial hatred. Eventually, when such regimes evade punishment for murder somewhere, they begin to follow their criminal example around the world.”
