The general picture of the coverage of the Karabakh conflict in the Russian media from October 30 to November 1

From October 30 to November 1, 2020, “Media Advocate” initiative monitored the publications of 5 leading Russian media outlets to find out how the Russian media covered the actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. The following media outlets were monitored: “Lenta ru”, “Gazeta ru”, “Ria Novosti”, “Regnum”, and “TASS”.

“Lenta.ru” published 27 articles, 5 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 13 of the Armenian side, 9 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts․ 8 out of 9 materials are neutral, none is pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

“Gazeta ru” published 61 articles, 13 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 28 of the Armenian side, 19 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 14 out of 19 materials are neutral, 3 are pro-Armenian, 2 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“Ria Novosti” published 119 articles, 37 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 64 of the Armenian side, 18 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 13 out of 18 materials are neutral, 4 are pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

“TASS” published 56 articles, 16 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 21 of the Armenian side, 19 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts.  16 out of 19 materials are neutral, 1 is pro-Armenian, 2 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“Regnum” published 57 articles, 12 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 23 of the Armenian side, 22 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 19 out of 22 materials are neutral, 2 are pro-Armenian, 1 is pro-Azerbaijani.

Trump’s national security adviser Robert O’Brien stated during a meeting with the Armenian community in Los Angeles that the entry of Turkish peacekeepers into Artsakh is unacceptable for both Armenia and the United States. “Azerbaijan has an advantage in the war, as it has bought a huge number of weapons at the expense of its oil resources. Besides, Turkey supports Azerbaijan in every possible way, supplying weapons and hiring terrorists,” O’Brien noted.

The MP of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from Opposition Platform – For Life Party Ilya Kiva, wrote in his Telegram channel that Ukraine is actively participating in the military conflict between Armenia and Turkey by supplying weapons to Azerbaijan. According to the Ukrainian MP, the next cargo from “Ukrspetsexport” flew to Istanbul, then to Baku, where the recipient is the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

Russian journalist Yuri Kotenok, who was injured in Artsakh, underwent his third surgery at Erebuni Medical Center in Yerevan. According to Russian media, the journalist thanked the staff of “Erebuni” medical center, noting: “Professionalism, compassion, kindness are the characteristics of these wonderful people.”

The European Union will send 400 thousand euros of humanitarian aid to Nagorno Karabakh to assisst the population affected by the conflict. The British authorities, in their turn, will provide more than 1 million pounds of humanitarian aid to Artsakh.
