According to Caucasus expert Stanislav Tarasov, Aliyev has restricted his capability to maneuver with Ankara. “Erdogan still has a very negative image of an adventurer. Turkey is fighting in Syria and Libya, and for many years the army has been unsuccessfully fighting against the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the Middle East. Despite the propaganda, there are no serious victories. If Erdogan is not supported by the big players in the world, he will have to quit the game, leaving Aliyev alone.”
