The general picture of the coverage of the Karabakh conflict in the Russian media from October 16 to 19

From October 16 to 19, 2020, “Media Advocate” initiative monitored the publications of 5 leading Russian media outlets to find out how the Russian media covered the actions unleashed by Azerbaijan. The following media outlets were monitored: “Lenta ru”, “Gazeta ru”, “Ria Novosti”, “Regnum”, and “TASS”.

“Lenta.ru” published 64 articles, 18 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 27 of the Armenian side, 19 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 11 out of 19 materials are neutral, 5 are pro-Armenian, 3 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“Gazeta ru” published 99 articles, 23 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 42 of the Armenian side, 34 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 22 out of 34 materials are neutral, 10 are pro-Armenian, 2 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“Ria Novosti” published 148 articles, 53 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 74 of the Armenian side, 21 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 16 out of 21 materials are neutral, 3 are pro-Armenian, 2 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“TASS” published 93 articles, 55 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 38 of the Armenian side, 26 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 19 out of 26 materials are neutral, 3 are pro-Armenian, 4 are pro-Azerbaijani.

“Regnum” published 87 articles, 23 of which were the publications of the Azerbaijani side, 34 of the Armenian side, 30 were calls, statements of different countries and structures, as well as comments of state officials and experts. 23 out of 30 materials are neutral 4 are pro-Armenian, 3 are pro-Azerbaijani.

During the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani side against the Artsakh Republic, it was confirmed that Turkey was the core initiator of large-scale military operations. Within the framework of this statement, Tulsi Gabbard, a member of the House of Representatives, noted that Turkey should leave NATO. The Luxembourg parliament, in its turn, passed a resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s actions.

The Russian press writes that protests have started in Israel against the sale of weapons to Azerbaijan.
