An incident took place today between “My Step” alliance deputies Kristine Poghosyan, Arthur Hovhannisyan and the 5th Channel journalist. The deputy hit the journalist and threatened him. The state of war does not allow the deputies to behave like this or use force against journalists.
“Media Advocate” initiative urges the police to prevent such cases of pressure on journalists, as well as held accountable those MPs who misbehave and threaten journalists. Threats and cases of pressure on freedom of speech are not in the interests of our state.
“Media Advocate” initiative urges the deputies not to go beyond the bounds of politeness, not to behave inappropriately.
We are willing to support the aggrieved journalist within the framework of international and local laws. We urge the international human rights organizations to be consistent with such manifestations, not to allow the pro-government deputies to take arbitrary actions and to hinder the professional work of journalists.
