On August 18, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, referring to the news about his possible resignation disseminated in the press, labeled the professional work of journalists, dividing the news outlets into “formers and presents”.
This is an unacceptable approach. The mayor may disagree with this or that publication of the news outlet, deny the published news, but labeling and acting in a manner inappropriate to the mayor when dealing with journalists, is inadmissible.
“Media Advocate” initiative urges the mayor not to target free speech, to speak respectfully about the professional work of journalists, to express his disagreement in an appropriate way to a state official, taking into account the rules of ethics.
