From 5 to 15 July, 2020 the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the RA Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 409 articles were declared, 4 of which were negative, 39 were positive and 366 were neutral.
Numerous positive articles have been published on the RA Minister of Defense David Tonoyan.
The pastor of the village of Movses, Father Abel, regularly provided information on the border situation. Referring to the provision of weapons to the people living in the border villages, he noted: “No, it is unacceptable, we have discussed that issue with almost all the ministers. We have discussed it with my dear Davit Tonoyan as well, when he was still the Minister of Emergency Situations, at that time we had agreed that there should be armed units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the village, and this has been implemented for two years now. The Ministry of Emergency Situations conducts such services in many villages. That is, there is a weapon in the village, which is under state protection. Weapons should not be given to the population, this may create an irresponsible situation.”
Prose writer Davit Sargsyan, referring to the border tension, noted: “We must take into account the primitive treachery of the Turks, their cunning nature, the trick that they may escalate the situation in the north and initiate more serious actions in the south.” Knowing well and bowing to David Tonoyan as the head of the RA Ministry of Defense, I am sure that a general alarm, first readiness will be announced, at all points of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, starting from Nakhijevan, ending with the Artsakh border.”
During her meeting with Defense Minister, Director of the “Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory Foundation”, Professor of the Department of Physics at the University of Notre Dame, Ani Aprahamian thanked David Tonoyan for his willingness to cooperate on long-term projects. She, in particularly, noted: “Mr. Minister, thank you for the warm welcome and for the implementation of the ideas proposed by you, which have brought great success in the field of defense. At the same time, thank you for considering realistic joint efforts in the field of science and military industry. We are ready to register new successful initiatives together.”
