In a conversation with Aravot.am, RA NA Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan got angry when being asked about the issue of bonuses. The NA Vice Speaker made insulting expressions towards the journalistic community, again accusing the journalists and media outlets of receiving money.
“Media Advocate” initiative considers such attacks against the media unacceptable. Anonymous and unaddressed attacks on freedom of speech deteriorate the government-media-society connection. The unaddressed accusations are being constantly repeated, and have no justification.
It should be reminded that Alen Simonyan used to work in the media field, nevertheless now he accuses his former colleagues. In fact, according to Alen Simonyan, the similar practice used to be in the past as well. We urge Alen Simonyan not to underestimate the importance of the cooperation with the media. With continuous attacks on the media, Alen Simonyan claims to gain the title of the “Enemy of the Media”.
Let us remind Alen Simonyan that defending freedom of speech is his constitutional duty and he must support freedom of speech and press.
