Former Human Rights Defender makes unaddressed accusations

On his Facebook page, former RA Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan, referring to the recent events in the country, wrote: “The criminal remnants of the former authorities have initiated their last game; a new and disgusting one. They turn every small legal incident and every slip of the power into a nationwide mourning. That’s why they have a lot of journalists, political scientists for sale and fake human rights activists.”

The former ombudsman ended his post with even more aggressive and hateful remarks, expressing hope that “in the hot days of summer, both the coronavirus and the more dangerous remnants of the former criminal group will be abolished.”

“Media Advocate” initiative considers the aggressive behavior of the former ombudsman, such manifestations of hate speech and violence, and unaddressed accusations against journalists unacceptable. Karen Andreasyan’s Facebook post is not proper for a person who once held the position of the RA Human Rights Defender.

In fact, the former Human Rights Defender, makes unaddressed accusations without any legal and judicial justifications, which does not derive from the philosophy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, violates the presumption of innocence. The RA Police must demand clarifications, find out exactly whom the words of the Human Rights Defender are addressed and start an investigation. Unaddressed accusations have become part of everyday speech among those who support the government.
