From 21 to 30 April, 2020, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 568 articles were declared, 100 of which were negative, 12 were positive and 456 were neutral.
Numerous negative articles were published on RA Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. RPA Deputy Chairman Armen Ashotyan, referring to the telephone conversation between Armenian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Dmytro Kuleba, reminded that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urged their officials not to use the term Armenian Genocide and not to participate in commemoration events. Ashotyan expressed bewilderment that during the telephone conversation the RA Foreign Minister did not refer to that statement in any way.
Former RA NA Deputy Elinar Vardanyan found contradictions in the words of RA Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. Elinar Vardanyan, referring to that topic, in particularly, wrote: “On April 21, Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts stated that about 22.000 of our compatriots have returned to Armenia so far. The geography is quite wide: The United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and other European countries. Surprisingly, RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan presents different number on arrived citizens. During a talk organized in the framework of the series of meetings INSTALIVE launched by the Children of Armenia Charitable Foundation (COAF), Mnatsakanyan noted that about 63.000 RA citizens have returned to Armenia since March 1.
Zohrab Mnatsakanyan is also criticized within the context of discussions on the Artsakh issue. According to analysts and comments of politicians, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan insisted for a year that there were no documents or agreements in the negotiation process, but Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov’s statement testified the opposite. Thus, the public is waiting for the answers of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
