April 3, Monitoring Results of Media Activity Restrictions in an Emergency Situation

Օn April 3, “Media Advocate” Initiative monitored the work of the Commandant’s office with the media in emergency situation.

Human Rights Watch Deputy Director for the Europe and Central Asia Division, Giorgi Gogia referring to the amendments to the Law on the Legal Regime of the State of Emergency and the Law on Electronic Communications, noted: “Though there may be certain restrictions of the right to privacy in order to prevent the epidemic outbreak, the government must ensure that these restrictions are legal, necessary and proportionate. So as not to endanger the trust that is needed for an effective public health response, they need to explain their steps in this direction and ensure that these digital control measures are in strict compliance with the long-term guarantees of human rights protection.”

Reporters Without Borders International Organization has released a statement on its Twitter page regarding the government’s approval of a bill restricting environmental information in Armenia. The organization warned that the legislative bill restricting access to environmental information, violates the principle of transparency adopted by the authorities.

“Media Advocate” Initiative also highlighted the articles on the coronavirus and coronavirus-related issues appearing in the media on April 3. As a result of today’s monitoring, the featured articles were reviewed and no removed publications were found.
