“Media Advocate” met with RPA Vice President Armen Ashotyan

As we have already informed, “Media Advocate” Initiative conducts a series of meetings within the framework of its observation mission of the April 5 referendum on amendments to the RA Constitution. This time “Media Advocate” met with Armen Ashotyan, Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

The RPA Vice President informed about their meetings with senior European officials. Media Advocate, in its turn, presented its observations on the course of the campaign and the recorded violations. Ashotyan emphasized that they do not use the platform of the “No” campaign, and added that the “Yes” campaign side is acting with the same logic of dividing into “blacks” and “whites”. Ashotyan also emphasized that the Republican Party has adopted two statements regarding the referendum, giving exhaustive and legal, political assessments and is not going to participate in the campaign. He also stressed that, considering the importance of overseeing the referendum, the Republican Party would not hinder the participation of its party members in the referendum oversight process if they are willing to take part in it.

During the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to follow the political processes and continue the consultations.

It should be mentioned that, “Media Advocate” Initiative received an accreditation from Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to carry out its observation mission. On April 5, our observers will be able to follow the referendum in the polling stations.
