“Media Advocate” Initiative got informed that a criminal case was opened against the former head of Davtashen administrative district Ruslan Baghdasaryan. Bail and signature bond were applied as deterrence.
“Media Advocate” initiative considers this as another violation of freedom of speech. About 18 months have passed since the change of power, and only after Ruslan Baghdasaryan became active on the Social Networks and began pointing out the government’s flaws, law enforcement officials launched a criminal proceeding against him.
The same thing happened with the former deputy of the NA chief of staff Arsen Babayan and the head of the Hayastan All-Armenian fund Ara Vardanyan. This behaviour is disturbing in its scale of the fight against freedom of speech.
“Media Advocate” initiative urges the authorities not to use law enforcement bodies as tools against freedom of speech.
