From 21 to 31 August, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sargsyan’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 237 articles were declared, 33 of which were negative, 11 were positive and 193 were neutral.
The RA President Armen Sargsyan’s positions have weakened, negative articles on the president still increase. This time, the issue of Amulsar has become a problem for both the current authorities and Armen Sargsyan. Former MP Vardan Bostanjyan has not excluded the point that Armen Sargsyan is one of the interested parties in the Amulsar issue which makes his silence understandable. “It is clear that there are shareholders in the Amulsar issue, who are mainly from the English side. Considering this, he may have received appropriate support and guidance from that side. In this case, this so called “hidden state” is a convenient situation for him.”
In the media analyses one may come across an opinion that Armen Sargsyan was the one who brought “Lydian Armenia” to Armenia and he is considered to be the godfather of this suspicious deal. The Prime Minister does not mention President when addressing this very issue, at least with a single hint.
Armen Sargsyan’s political activity and position are not certainly perceived by the public and the media. In particular, it is said that the president has an almost zero role in political life in Armenia and that he is simply left with nothing but with eating ice-cream, dancing kochari and unconditional implementation of Nikol Pashinyan’s “petitions”.
The fact that the President did not congratulate on birthday of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, has also been criticized.
Armen Sargsyan’s PR team is no longer able to regain president’s positive image both on social networks and in the media. The society demands Armen Sargsyan to be more persistent in the current situation.
