Arayik Harutyunyan is being harshly criticized by media

From 21 to 31 August, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Minister Arayik Harutyunyan’s personality and activities. 35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.

In the specified period, 330 articles were declared, 65 of which were negative, 2 were positive and 263 were neutral.

This time, the news outlets actively followed the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan, assessing his activities as negative.

The news outlets note that “Andin” magazine has not been published for about a year. According to Ani Ter-Gulanyan, editor of the youth section of the magazine”, 1500 magazines were printed and distributed to schools in one copy so that students and teachers could get acquainted with modern and classical Armenian literature.” According to Ter-Gulanyan, one day only via Facebook post Arayik Harutyunyan decided that the magazine was no longer needed. She notes that many arrangements have been changed as a result of that decision.

The President of the Boxing Federation and former MP Arthur Gevorgyan, says that as a result of Arayik Harutyunyan’s ministry activities, the Armenian boxing team will not be able to participate in the European Youth Championship, moreover, adult’s participation in the World Championship is at risk. “By indirectly delaying the funding fixed by a document, by simply not responding to our letters and phone calls, you are not accountable only to your own conscience but also to our young Armenian athletes who make Armenia proud. And if both of these things are not essential, remember that you will have to find protection before the law.”

The issue of dismissal of ASUE Rector Ruben Hayrapetyan is also being discussed. Armine Yaralova, a staff member, told the press that the minister’s decision was at least unfair.

Arayik Harutyunyan’s proposal to re-edit history books has also been criticized. According to representatives of the public sector, it is unacceptable, that is history cannot be re-edited.

Arayik Harutyunyan was not present at the blessing ceremony of Education Workers this year. It is noted that since 2010, when this order was established, all the Ministers of Education and Science have participated in the ceremony, and it is only Arayik Harutyunyan who missed the ceremony for two years. This has also been a subject of criticism.
