From 21 to 31 August, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Lilit Makunts’s personality and activities.
35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.
In the specified period, 73 articles were declared, 5 of which were negative and 68 were neutral.
Lilit Makunts, the head of the NA “My Step” faction, continues to be criticized in the media. Activist Vardges Gaspari, who is well known for implementing protests when lying on the ground, visited MP’s apartment. The reason for his complaint is that many MPs of the faction headed by Lilit Makunts leave letters of citizens unanswered. Gaspari had an intention to broadcast the meeting via Facebook live.
As far as the Amulsar problem is concerned, it turned out to be a Pandora’s box for the government. Politicians try to give explanations on the topic, but after their answers, the questions only arise, and the representatives of the ruling party fail to clarify their answers for a long time. There is also a problem with their political path. Before coming to power, many had fought against Amulsar’s exploitation, and now the change of their opinion is not unaccepted by the activists who have fought with them but who are not part of the government. In the media analyses one may see a viewpoint according to which these politicians came to power through the people but betrayed the same people in the matter of Amulsar. According to media reports, Lilit Makunts is one of those politicians.
