“Media Advocate” Initiative urges Gagik Tsarukyan and all politicians to stop filing lawsuits against the media

From 21 to 31 July, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan’s personality and activities.

35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.

In the specified period, 83 articles were declared, 28 of which were negative, 16 were positive and 39 were neutral.

Gagik Tsarukyan continues to be in the middle of a scandal for his business activity. This time, the Fact Investigation Platform (Fip.am) published an article according to which Gagik Tsarukyan started a new business project, 70% of which belonged to Gagik Tsarukyan, 20% to Gagik Khachikyan, 5% to Syrian businessman Ammar Sabbag, and 5% to French citizen Fawzi Akfalin. According to media reports, the company will be recycling cotton.

The relations between Gagik Tsarukyan and the President of Boxing Federation Arthur Gevorgyan continue to be discussed and remain scandalous. The news outlets note that the state may suffer because of such tense personal relations between them.

As a result of the NA monitoring it became clear that Gagik Tsarukyan had the most absentees: Tsarukyan had been absent from 11 NA plenary sessions, by reason of it, 357,000 AMD was kept from the PAP leader’s salary.

15.07.2019 decision of the Court of First Instance of the City of Yerevan of the Republic of Armenia (Judge A. Gabrielyan) dismissed the claim of Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan against MAMUL.am news agency. “Media Advocate” Initiative urges Gagik Tsarukyan and all politicians to stop filing lawsuits against the media. By the way, the number of lawsuits against the media has been unprecedented lately. This may be perceived as a fight against freedom of speech.

Gagik Tsarukyan has also continued his social activities and charity programs, due to which he received large number of positive articles.
