On July 27, “Azatutyun”’s news center broadcasted a reportage on the new charge filed against Manvel Grigoryan’s son, former Mayor of Echmiadzin Karen Grigoryan.
During the reportage, the press release which was posted a month ago by the Investigative Committee, is being recalled. According to it, in 2015-2018, a number of people were registered as employees in the Ejmiatsin municipality, but they did not attend work and being busy with other jobs, actually received salary from the community budget. Some examples are brought insisting that there was even a person who has not been employed for 7 years but has received a salary of more than 5 million drams.
Then, during the reportage, a telephone conversation is being held with the mayor of Ejhmiatsin, Diana Gasparyan, who, in her turn, informs that there were other misuses in the municipality. At the end of the reportage it is only mentioned that Grigoryan’s lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan “has previously insisted that Karen Grigoryan does not admit the accusations against him”.
That is to say, “Azatutyun”’s whole reportage includes a unilateral position; the standpoint of the prosecutor and opinion confirming prosecutor’s position, while Karen Grigoryan’s or his lawyer’s current standpoint is not presented, which contradicts the principle of impartial information dissemination.
