Mrs. Zohrabyan’s conflict is currently only with members of the LGBTIQ community

From 1 to 10 July, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Member of the National Assembly Naira Zohrabyan’s personality and activities. 35 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.

In the specified period, 122 articles were declared, 12 of which were positive, 2 were negative and 112 were neutral.

NA deputy Naira Zohrabyan continues to have a better rating in comparison with the other politicians included in our monitoring list. In the past ten days, Mrs. Zohrabyan’s photoshoot again helped her gain a positive feedback. At the same time, Naira Zohrabyan, according to the news outlets, is respected by Armavir penitentiary prisoners.

A military serviceman Gor Goroyan, who had recently applied to the MP with a letter, was accused of escaping from military service and could be sentenced but due to Naira Zohrabyan’s mediation, he was released and sent to service. This was also positively covered by the news outlets.

Naira Zohrabyan is also considered to be one of the most active MPs. A wave of violence against Naira Zohrabyan emerged on the social networks: the LGBTIQ community and a number of citizens consider the MP incompetent to be the chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs. Arman Abovyan spoke in defense of his colleague and said: “We are gradually reaching the top of the absurdity… To tell the truth, we expected that transgender people will do everything that the Istanbul Convention is ratified by Armenia, but this obvious pressure on the Chairman of the RA NA “Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs ” goes beyond all the boundaries.”

Naira Zohrabyan, in fact, continuing her social programs and being active inside the team, attracts the attention of the media and is able to present everything properly to the society. It turns out that Mrs. Zohrabyan’s conflict is currently only with members of the LGBTIQ community.
