Unbalanced coverage

During the June 15 issue of Azatutyun’s news program, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pduF1GBe5dE) Robert Kocharyans statement according to which the criminal case against him is “fictitious” is addressed. The journalist recalls that according to human rights defenders “the cases  were fictitious during Robert Kocharyan’s leadership”. This statement is followed by the human rights defender Janna Aleksanyan’s assessments on Robert Kocharyan’s leadership years․ She is accusing him of the current state of the courts and represents him as the one who is responsible for some other criminal cases. Then, the coordinator of the ANC Legal Committee, Armen Khachatryan, continues to criticize the judicial system of Kocharyan’s leadership years, pointing out a number of trials and labeling Kocharyan as “the most professional one to order fictitious cases.” In other words, during the above mentioned issue, Kocharyan’s lawyers are not given enough time, comprehensive coverage is not provided.

During the evening issue of the same day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJmdKZLo9s0), although Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer Aram Orbelyan is given a minute, during which he attempts to substantiate his client’s assessment․ During this release, most of the coverage is again devoted to human rights defender Janna Aleksanyan and ANC legal committee coordinator Armen Khachatryan: their assessments released during the daytime broadcast, are again aired.
