Tense ten-day period for Gagik Tsarukyan

From 11 to 20 May, 2019, the “Media Advocate” initiative followed online media reports on the Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan’s personality and activities.

34 leading Armenian news agencies have been monitored.

In the specified period, 133 articles were declared, 19 of which were negative, 37 were positive and 77 were neutral.

Positive articles on Gagik Tsarukyan prevail during this ten-day period. First of all, it was reported that Silvio Berlusconi had sent gifts to Tsarukyan, and then it was mentioned that the NA MP continues to support the grape producers.

Negative articles are mainly related to the rivalry between Gagik Tsarukyan and CD (Citizen’s Decision) party, in which the latter continues to insist that Gagik Tsarukyan should return his parliamentary mandate. This process is supported by the news agencies that stand close to the government and the “Luminous Armenia” party.

It turns out that Gagik Tsarukyan continues to be perceived as a businessman, and political intrigues connected with him are also related to his business activities. Interestingly, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) rejected the appeal against Gagik Tsarukyan. It should also be added that there is an interesting fact among the positive articles. The news outlets insist that instead of helping the person who has a military-service disability, “My Step” Foundation advised to appeal to Gagik Tsarukyan.
